The Town Center at Levis Commons is partnering with local retailers and providing Easter baskets for children in need this Easter season. Donations are being collected through March 30^th at Books-A-Million and Max & Erma’s which are located at The Town Center at Levis Commons. Requested items include candy, books, DVD’s and small toys. With the help and generosity from the people in Northwest Ohio, we hope to donate 50 baskets this year.

The Easter baskets will be donated to the Cocoon Shelter and the Perrysburg Christian United Food Pantry, both located in Wood County. The Cocoon Shelter offers a place for safety, healing and justice for battered women and children in Wood County. The Perrysburg Christian United Food Pantry serves residents in Wood County who are in need of assistance by providing them with free groceries twice a month.

In the spirit of Easter giving, The Town Center at Levis Commons will be hosting an “Enchanted Tea for Mommy & Me” March 31 from 10:00am to Noon. Guests are encouraged to bring a donation for the Baskets of Cheer Drive to help support those children less fortunate in our area. Tea party guests will also get a lesson in giving back to the community as they help stuff the Easter baskets with items collected throughout March. Parents are invited to bring their camera to take photographs if they choose.

Celebrity Looks for Less at Levis

If you can’t tell by the name “fashionably broke”, I love fashion but am on a tight budget (think back to your first years out of college and you’ll understand). I’ve had quite the love-hate relationship with working at Levis. I love being surrounded by great fashion, but sometimes my wallet hates it. The great thing about the shops here is that you can get a LOT of items for a great price. Plus, I’m always on the front line of knowing who is having a sale and where the deals are (and of course I love to share this insight with our friends on Facebook!)

I’ve been doing a little research on some of my favorite celebs and what they’re wearing…and how I can get their looks for less. Here’s what I have come up with:

I LOVE Sofia Vergara. If you haven’t seen ABC’s Modern Family, you are missing out. She is hysterical, AND has a great sense of style (see picture):

Wide leg pants are making a comeback and I love every bit of it. I’ve worked my magic and found a great pair, and the best part is they’re sold right below my office. Check out this pair of J Brand jeans, available at Vivian Kate:

Pair it with this blouse from New York and Company and bag from Francesca’s and you’ve got her look! Throw on some heeled boots and a jacket and you’re ready for Ohio weather too.

Up next is Kourtney Kardashian. Yes, I know Kim has had some negative press lately and I don’t condone what she is doing, but I still die for Kourt’s style:

Dark skinnies are a staple for any wardrobe. Here is an amazing pair available at LOFT:

Add this bright silk top from Talbots for some color. All that’s left is a pair of knee-high black boots (available at The Shoe Dept.) and soon you’re last name will be Kardashian and you’ll be mom to the cutest kid in Hollywood!

I'm Just Devin

I fancy myself a creative person who will never be caught buying store bought invitations for my kid’s birthday parties. My OCD challenges me to go for the unique, the creative and the special when presented with any project. With two boys and a baby girl on the way I have broken my pregnant back now on three occasions to decorate nurseries and bedrooms with unique themes that speak to our family style and traditions. It would have been so much easier to buy a “room in a bag” from Babies R Us, but where is the fun in that.

Since the birth of my first son 5 years ago I start planning Halloween costumes in July. It has to be different, it has to be creative and it has to have a purpose. Imagine my disappointment when my two highly opinionated little goblins refused for yet another year to wear a costume. Our costume line up in years past has included a homemade shirt that says “I’m Two And I Refuse To Wear A Costume” as well as a shirt and matching hat that simply states “I’m Just Devin”.

Although I partially admire my kids for being so self confident that they don’t feel the need to dress as anything but themselves, the pain of taking them out Trick or Treating in camouflage pants and saying they are a hunter just breaks my heart. So please don’t think that I am “that” mother who spends $5 on a costume and expects $100 worth of candy in my child’s bag; I am in fact that mother who was just simply out voted by a few pint sized Trick or Treaters.

On a side, Levis Commons note, if you and your kiddos are still looking for something fun and Halloween-ish this weekend, we have hayrides and a pumpkin decorating salon tomorrow from 3-6pm. Each child will get their own pumpkin to decorate and take home just in time for Halloween. Come out and join the fun- costumes are optional :)

Poodle Skirts and Pumpkin Bowling

Here we are one day before the Fall Festival and my daughter’s first appearance in her Halloween costume. After a Cinderella-like incident this morning while trying on the saddle shoes I bought to go with her poodle skirt ensemble…I am back to searching for shoes. Who knew locating plain white canvas sneakers and/or saddle shoes would be like trying to find Waldo at a Dr. Seuss convention?

With that being said, I purchased the poodle skirt costume on clearance last October, so it’s not like I haven’t had TWELVE MONTHS to get it together!!!

Anyway, enough of the ranting….I hope you can fit the Fall Festival into your weekend plans. This year’s event is a little different than in the past. There will not be trick-or-treating store to store, but there WILL be lots of fall fun that won’t end in a sugar-induced meltdown. Hayrides, pumpkin bowling, cow-milking (yes, you read that correctly), balloon animals, pumpkin carving demonstrations, crafts and more!

Think of it as a costume party for kids…except with live music by Haywire for you. And of course a costume contest complete with 1^st, 2^nd and 3^rd place prizes for the best costumes. The fun starts at 3:00 p.m. and ends at 6:00p.m. No need to pre-register for the costume contest…but be there on time because it will start promptly at 5:00 p.m.!

Oh, and if you see a shoeless, 4-year old blonde running around in a poodle skirt…you’ve just met my Macy.

Welcome to “Your Everyday Getaway”- your one stop blog for everything you need to know about fashion, food, family and fun in the Toledo area.

Being that this is our first post, we think it is appropriate to introduce you to our writers. Individually, we are a hip mom of the 2 cutest girls in NW Ohio, grandma of 4, momma of 2 busy boys with a third bundle on the way, and a 20-something single. Together, we make up the Management Office at The Town Center at Levis Commons (okay, with some help from a few handy men whom we call team-MacGyver). But, from our 20’s to upwards of 50-something, with sons, daughters, grandsons and even one on the way, we like to think that we have the bases covered and pretty much know it all when it comes to the latest trends and hottest topics.

We’ll call writer #1 “princess PITA”...
