Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Celebrates 10 Years at Levis Commons

PERRYSBURG, OH (April 25, 2016) – An estimated 5,000 Northwest Ohio residents will join together at The Town Center at Levis Commons on Saturday, May 14, 2016 for the American Cancer Society’s 10th annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event. The non-competitive 5K walk unites the community in an effort to celebrate breast cancer survivors, educate people about how to reduce their breast cancer risk, and to raise funds for research and treatment.

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer has raised more than $685 million nationally with 11 million walkers in 300 communities across the country. 2016 marks the 10th Annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer (MSABC) event in Northwest Ohio which has raised more than $500,000 since its inaugural year. The 2016 goal for MSABC is to raise $100,000+ locally to support the ACS mission to save lives by helping people stay well, get well, to find a cure and to win the fight against breast cancer.

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer flagship sponsor Kroger is joined by additional corporate sponsors SSOE Group, Wood County Hospital, General Motors Toledo Transmission Operations, Tesco Bus Corporation, Merrill Lynch Wealth Management Thompson-Williams-Donahue Group, The Town Center at Levis Commons, Bath Fitter, Mercy Health, Fruchtman Marketing, IBEW Local 8, and media sponsors 13 ABC, 92.5 KISS FM, 101.5 The River, and iHeart Media. Without generous support from these partners, the event could not raise the funds necessary for breast cancer research and programming.

Participants of Making Strides Against Breast Cancer will enjoy a wide range of entertainment and activities as they walk the 3.1 mile route through Levis Commons. From performances by the Perrysburg High School Marching Band and the Perrysburg Twirling Sophisticates to a Fun Tent for junior walkers, a photo booth and strolling mascots, there will be plenty of fun for walkers of all ages. Additionally, many Levis Commons businesses offer discounts, giveaways and special promotions during the event.

There is a special emphasis at Making Strides Against Breast Cancer on celebrating and showing support for people who have been victorious in their fight against breast cancer. Survivors are invited to a “Survivor Tent” at the walk where they receive an honorary recognition item and are pampered with free chair massages and comradery.

About the American Cancer Society:

The American Cancer Society combines an unyielding passion with nearly a century of experience to save lives and end suffering from cancer.  As a global grassroots force of more than three million volunteers, we fight for every birthday threatened by every cancer in every community.  We save lives by helping people stay well by preventing cancer or detecting it early; helping people get well by being there for them during and after a cancer diagnosis; by finding cures through investment in groundbreaking discovery; and by fighting back by rallying lawmakers to pass laws to defeat cancer and by rallying communities worldwide to join the fight.  As the nation’s largest non-governmental investor in cancer research, contributing more than $3.4 billion, we turn what we know about cancer into what we do.  As a result, more than 11 million people in America who have had cancer and countless more who have avoided it will be celebrating birthdays this year.  To learn more about us or to get help, call us any time, day or night, at 1.800.227.2345 or visit
